Designer Niels Maier founded the boutique design studio of the same name, located in the center of Maastricht, the Netherlands, with a clear focus on interiors, architecture and design. 

Yinjispace：How to design a unique space? How would you describe your design strategies?

Every space is unique to me , my goal is to create a unique space that suits the context and most of all it suits the lifestyle of the users. I like spaces to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing , carved with emotion and most of all feel good and serve you. 

Yinjispace：In what stage, you form your own design style?

Niels Maier：A good design is the result of - curiosity  - in my design process there are no exact rules based strategy , my work is always intuitive with an open mind to create a certain vibe. Often there is a start by stripping down the structure and then start designing layer by layer, but there is always a moment when the juice comes in.

Yinjispace：Where does your inspiration come from?

Niels Maier：Endless …. daily live , google , art, music, surf, architectural icons, fashion and mother nature. 

Yinjispace：We feel incredible craftsmanship in your design. What traditional craftsmanship and natural materials do you use in your work?

Niels Maier：There is a lot of respect for craftsmanship and craftsmen for me it’s interesting playfield to do research , create and make to add sustainability and durability to my designs and most of all character. We use a wide spectrum of materials but we move more and forward to use materiality in depth that only work when applied or build by excellent craftsmen where passion and technique go hand in hand too create a long lasting result.  

Yinjispace：People tend to be appealed by Minimalism. How would you explain that?

Niels Maier：I am not sure if minimalism is attending to many people, nowadays we have so many individuals and styles so I think there is room for many styles but for me personally it works best to create a understated interior with spunk.  ( energy ) 

Yinjispace：Is there anything different in your new work?

Niels Maier：My work is an evolving process I always take some elements from my previous interior design into my new interior design so my spaces will constantly evolve but are somehow always connected, this gives a good grip and is also challenging so it’s never boring. Architectural comfort is something we add more and more ; we want to feel comfort but literal not see the comfort in our interior designs.  

Yinjispace：What difference do you find after designing in many countries? Do you have any new projects in China?

Niels Maier：My office is based ian Maastricht , The Netherlands close to border of Belgium. I currently work on projects in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Swiss and Portugal. All people are unique and every context is unique so every design provides a unique result. To add a residential project with ambition in China would be nice.
